  • You know it’s hilly when Geoff doesn’t decide to do any detours! Even hillier than yesterday and just as testing in willpower and strength
  • Stopped at top of a big hill and had a cool refreshing drink and a bite to eat. I went in to pay and was told I needed to go through the restaurant area. Heard a lot of sniggering and suddenly realised I still had some pants hanging from my camel back. We washed out some clothes last night and as they were still damp I pinned them to my panniers and also my camel back, to dry as we cycled. I turned beetroot red and after paying had to turn round and walk back out of the restaurant with everyone looking.
  • Went on A roads for a short while to avoid some of the steepest hills. I don’t like the traffic and not much chance to admire scenery but hills were much easier. Still long and steep but you could work up into a rhythm and just get your head down. Then on the descent you could just enjoy the freewheeling, unlike the country roads where you had to keep brakes on as you turned corner after corner. I felt I could become an A road convert
  • Decided after problems we had finding a campsite yesterday that we would phone David and see if he could find us one near to our route and intended daily mileage
  • David came up trumps - No other tents at the campsite and chose a little secluded strip of land to pitch
  • Geoff cooked and we had a coffee before going to bed tired but happy. Coffee was bad move as it kept us awake, along with the fly caught between the inner and outer tent. Both still tired in the morning.
